CYBERSECURITY RISK ASSESSMENT AND MITIGATION STRATEGIES FOR SME’S

Abstract

In the competitive business world, small and medium enterprises face significant cybersecurity challenges. Lack of awareness, limited resources, and inadequate cybersecurity expertise often leave SMEs vulnerable to cyberattacks. This research paper explores the critical cybersecurity risks facing SMEs and outlines effective mitigation strategies to enhance their resilience. Small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the global economy, contributing significantly to employment, innovation, and economic growth. However, their inherent characteristics, such as limited financial resources and traditional organizational structures, often hinder their ability to effectively address cybersecurity threats. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the cybersecurity challenges faced by SMEs, as the rapid shift to remote work has increased their exposure to cyberattacks. Through a comprehensive review of the literature, this paper identifies the key cybersecurity risks confronting SMEs, including data breaches, ransomware attacks, and insider threats.
